Oil Filled Radiators
Oil filled radiators are a popular and reliable choice when it comes to warming your home. Why? An oil filled radiator heater is versatile, easy to operate and incredibly efficient to run – this gives you complete control, with lower running costs. Because they’re so easy to run, oil-filled heaters are the perfect backup option if your central heating stops working. Freestanding oil radiators can be used anywhere there’s somewhere to plug into – a great option for taking the chill out of a specific room or area without firing up your full heating system.
Oil-Filled Radiator Heaters
Oil radiator heaters have great thermal retention, only using electricity to heat the oil inside. This can take longer than other heating methods but uses less energy to maintain the temperature when it’s reached. Oil heaters keep radiating warmth long after you switch off the power.

What are the advantages and limitations of an oil radiator?
Advantages
- Quiet operation (no fan).
- Good thermal retention - it holds heat.
- More stable, consistent heat.
- Lower maintenance (sealed unit).
- Safe: no exposed heating elements, many include overheat / tip-over protection.
Limitations / considerations
- Slower to raise room temperature (warm-up time).
- Heavier / less portable than lighter electric heaters (because of oil weight).
- Surface may become quite hot - risk of burns if touched.
- Best suited for medium to small rooms. In very large spaces, multiple units or supplementary heating might be needed.
Do oil filled radiators need refilling or maintenance?
No, you do not need to refill or replace the oil. The radiator is factory filled with diathermic oil, sealed, and the oil does not burn or evaporate in normal use.
Maintenance is minimal: you should wipe off dust, ensure ventilation is not blocked, check power cords and controls. Avoid opening or tampering with the sealed unit.
Which size / wattage oil radiator do I need for a room?
Choose a radiator size according to room volume, insulation, and heat loss.
General guide:
- Small rooms (e.g. study, small bedroom): ~ 400–800 W
- Medium rooms (bedroom, lounge): ~ 1,000–1,500 W
- Large rooms or poorly insulated space: 1,800–2,500 W or multiple units
