Big improvement on my old plumbing torch
Bought this to replace a very simple torch that wouldn't work with the gas cartridge horizontal or pointed downwards. Before I decided to solder joints under the floor, I had got excellent results on many DIY plumbing jobs over a period of about 40 years.
However, the Monument Torch is in a completely different league. It turns on and ignites with one or two squeezes of the red button and remains on after another little button is pressed in. It is turned off by another squeeze on the red button.
Setting the flame is done on the small brass knob on the other side of the tool. This means that it can be turned on and off to exactly the same setting. This is a fantastic time-saving feature that should also save gas and avoid the temptation to leave it alight while adjusting pipes/supports etc.
It works fine even upside down.
The only word of caution is that it is very powerful. For soldering 22/15mm copper it only needs to be set at about a quarter of a turn from minimum on the brass knob. Maximum is two full turns.
I used it with Vortex 'propane' cylinders, which contain some butane. They have a bigger screw thread on the end than the screw-on standard also used on some camp stove cylinders. Three adaptors are mentioned on the packaging, but Toolstation do not stock these.

Great little torch, used to solder copper piping. Ignites first time controllable flame does the job well.
