Can I put a door hook on a hollow core door?

If you are using an over-the-door style door hook, yes - these simply rest on top of the door and don't require drilling. However, if you are using screw-in door hooks or coat hooks, a hollow core door won't provide enough grip for the screws. For hollow doors, you must use specialised hollow door anchors, or preferably, mount the hook on a solid wall instead.

What is the best way to hang heavy pictures or mirrors?

For particularly heavy frames or large mirrors, a standard pin-based picture hook may not provide enough support, especially in plasterboard. Instead, use slotted mirror plates screwed directly into the wall studs, or heavy-duty hanging hooks paired with the appropriate rawlplugs for solid masonry. Always ensure the picture wire and frame D-rings are rated for the total weight.

Can I use hanging hooks in the ceiling for garage storage?

Yes, heavy-duty vinyl-coated hanging hooks (often called utility hooks) are excellent for maximizing garage space by suspending bikes, ladders, and large tools from the ceiling. However, it is absolutely critical that these hooks are driven deeply into solid timber ceiling joists - never just into the plasterboard - to safely bear the load.

How much weight can a standard picture hook hold?

A standard single-pin brass picture hook can typically hold between 3kg and 5kg, provided it is tapped into sound plaster and brickwork. If you are hanging slightly heavier artwork, opt for a double-pin picture hook, which distributes the load and can generally support up to 10kg.
