Flush Hinges

Save time and effort on your next carpentry project with our range of flush hinges. Unlike traditional butt hinges, a flush hinge is designed so that the inner leaf folds perfectly into the outer leaf when closed. This means they can be screwed directly onto the surface of the door and frame without the need to chisel out a mortice recess.

Because of their surface-mounted, lightweight design, flush hinges are the perfect choice for:

  • Kitchen cabinets and cupboards

  • Wardrobes and lightweight interior bi-fold doors

  • Small craft projects, display boxes, and model making

We stock reliable packs from top trade brands like Eclipse and Perry, available in sizes ranging from 40mm up to 75mm. Choose between traditional brass-plated finishes to match warm interior woodwork, or bright zinc for a clean, modern look that offers added corrosion resistance.

Frequently Asked Questions | FAQs

What is the difference between a flush hinge and a butt hinge?

The main difference is how they are installed. A traditional butt hinge requires you to cut a recess (a mortice) into both the door edge and the frame so it sits perfectly flat. A flush hinge has one leaf that nests directly inside the other, allowing the door to close completely flush without any chiseling required. This makes them much faster and easier to fit, especially for beginners.

Can I use flush hinges on standard internal doors?

Generally, no. Because flush hinges are surface-mounted and have a nested, thinner profile, they lack the structural strength to support the load of a heavy, full-sized internal or external door. For full-sized doors, you should always use morticed butt hinges or ball-bearing hinges. Flush hinges are specifically designed for lightweight applications like cabinet doors and wardrobes.

What size flush hinge do I need?

The size depends entirely on the weight and thickness of the door you are hanging. Smaller 40mm flush hinges are ideal for light jewelry boxes, small craft projects, or lightweight vanity cupboards. Larger 60mm or 75mm hinges provide better support for standard kitchen cabinet doors and lightweight wardrobe doors. Just make sure the width of the hinge leaf does not exceed the thickness of your door's edge.
