Rated 4 out of 5 by from Using to screwdown old deck timbers These screws seem to be a great answer to the decking issue. Stainless steel is too expensive for anything other than long term. I'm not sure how long my deck is needed before house refurb so as temp answer I've gone for these. Very easy to install and remove if needed. The star tool is easier than Pozi or phillips. A big issue for me is what happens long term when you need to remove them to replace timber decking strips. The previous Pozi screws were treated but most had rusted badly and took ages to get out leaving unsightly and unusable holes in the joists. If I was looking long term I would replace the joists but decided to treat them with preservative and cover the timber with black 100 mm pvc tape before putting new new timber deck strips down. The tape will keep the old joists drier than they would otherwise be and hopefully prevent much of the rusting. But beware steel screws will rust from the tool recess - the coating gets damaged when they are screwed in and ifyou ever overpaint or treat they will will continue to rust under the paint treatment and make removal a right pain! If you have the dosh go stainless! If I get the time an a couple of years I may report back about the longterm state of these but my initial reaction is that they are good.
