What is a Fascia Board?

A classic white fascia board is attached along the lower end of roof trusses to complete the look of an eave. But it’s not just about appearance – these boards will prevent moisture from entering the roof space, and can support the bottom row of slates or tiles as well.

The fascia board is where you’ll fix your guttering too, so it has to be strong – during heavy rain, the roof of a house can drain several gallons of water per second, which means it’s vital that your fascias are tough enough for the challenge.

What is a Soffit Board?

Soffit boards are installed horizontally beneath the fascia to close off the eave of the roof. Your soffit board also needs to look smart, as it’s the main part of the roofline you’ll see from ground level.

Soffit boards are equally important to prevent moisture from entering the roof area, however ventilation is essential for avoiding condensation damage. If you haven’t already got ventilation between the roof and fascia, you’ll need to choose a ventilated soffit board to help keep your timber in top condition.
