What Are Boiler Timers Used For?
Boiler timers enable you to programme the heating and hot water to come on at your preferred time and temperature. Choose from wall-mounted or wireless central heating timers to suit your home.
A 2-channel programmer allows you to manage both heating and hot water from the same device, whilst a 3-channel programmer enables hot water and two different central heating zones to be controlled independently. This is ideal for larger homes, where you may only need to heat specific rooms.
What’s the difference between a 2-channel and a 3-channel programmer?
2-channel: A central heating programmer that controls two outputs, normally one for central heating and one for hot water. This setup is common on most system or heat-only boilers.
3-channel: Adds an extra circuit. This can be used for a second heating zone, or for homes with underfloor heating alongside radiators. The extra channel allows independent control so you’re not heating areas you don’t need.
How do I choose the right central heating programmer for my system?
Check the following before buying:
- Number of zones: If you’ve only one heating circuit, a 2-channel unit is usually sufficient. For multiple zones, look at 3-channel programmers.
- Wiring compatibility: Confirm the voltage and connections match your boiler and junction box.
