Throughout June, we’re working with our charity partner Macmillan Cancer Support to highlight the importance of getting support for issues with your physical and mental health as well as being aware of the signs and symptoms of cancer.
During the coronavirus restrictions, Macmillan found that the number of people in England being seen by a specialist for suspected cancer following an urgent referral by their GP was 179,503 in July 2020. This is around 42,000 lower than it was the same time last year. There is also concern that because of the reluctance to visit a doctor, more and more people will not be diagnosed as quickly as they may have been prior to the pandemic.
We know that a significant number of our colleagues and customers will have been impacted by an actual or suspected cancer diagnosis, whether their own or a friend or family member, which is why we’re proud to be partnered with Macmillan while they offer continual financial, physical and emotional support to anyone affected by cancer.
It’s been great to see our colleagues getting stuck in, raising money for Macmillan, we’ve already raised over £150,000 towards our target of £500,000 and we want to thank all our customers for supporting our fundraising efforts all across the business. Even our directors are taking part – our Managing Director James, Finance Director Richard and Retail Director Simon are getting involved with our fundraising effort by taking part in this year’s London Marathon in October!
James is a great supporter of our charity efforts and said: ‘As a business, it’s really important to throw our support behind a charity partner. Our colleagues and customers have shown that they have a great connection with Macmillan and have got involved in all of our fundraising activities since the partnership began. I’m looking forward to getting hands on with our fundraising during my marathon training and seeing what else the teams have in store for the rest of 2021.’
Our store teams will be taking part in a football themed fundraiser later this month so make sure to get involved and show your support when you’re in store.
