Essential Tools & Equipment

Step 1: Access Your Ring Doorbell App From Your Device

Start by opening the Ring app on your smartphone or tablet.

  • From the app's home screen, click on the hamburger menu - these are the three lines at the top of the screen.
  • Now scroll to locate the specific device chime that you want to change.

Step 2: Select Chime Tone Options

  • After selecting the device, navigate to the 'Audio Settings' section.
  • From here, choose 'Chime Tones.'
  • Browse through the available chime tones and pick a tone that suits your preference.

Step 3: Adjust the Ring Chime Volume

Now that you've picked your favourite ring chime, maybe you want to adjust the chime volume. This can be helpful if it's particularly loud and you want to minimise disruption to your neighbours. Here's how:

  • From the main app menu, click on the three lines in the top left corner.
  • Now click on 'devices'
  • From here, tap on the Ring doorbell.
  • Navigate to 'device settings'
  • Find and tap on 'general settings'
  • Now tap on volume settings.
  • Under 'doorbell sounds' you can decrease or increase the volume by sliding the pointer.

Step 4: Set Custom Tones for Ring and Motion Alerts

You can even set different tones for the two types of alerts.  'Ring Alerts' is when someone presses your doorbell and 'Motion Alerts' is when movement has been detected outside and has triggered video recording.

You can adjust both of these tones by tapping on the 'Chime Tones' menu and selecting your preferred tone for each type of alert.

Step 5: Change App Alert Tones

Another useful feature is being able to choose different app alert tones to your device. This is handy if you want to specific tones to differentiate between different devices.

  • While on the Ring app home page, click on the main menu then choose the device you want to change.
  • Tap on 'Alert settings' and then 'App Alert Tones'.
  • Just like the chime, you can choose different tones and adjust the volume too.
