Product Details

Thinking of building your own garden fence? Try this post hole digger from the Hawksmoor landscaping range. Simply turn the handles of this manually operated digger to create a deep and evenly spaced hole. It calls for less force than a traditional shovel and makes neat and consistently sized holes. You can also use it to prepare planting beds for small plants without having to kneel in soil.

The post hole digger is easy to use as you simply push it into the earth, twist and remove soil. Its sharp, tapered tips slice through earth with ease, so the tool doesn't require you to exert much digging force. Its head is made of hardened steel for the ultimate level of toughness and is highly unlikely to snap off. Plus, soft-grip handles protect your hands and help you to maintain a firm hold on the digger.

• Hardened steel head for long-lasting strength and performance

• Tapered tips for better cutting – simply push, twist and remove

• Soft-grip handle keeps your hands comfortable throughout the job

• 135mm diameter head

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Does what is asked of it. Value for money and very sturdy. Did exactly what I was expecting. A little on the heavy side but worked well. For the money I would say that it was value for money and made the job much more easier. Would recommend.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Should be zero stars Lowest quality item I’ve ever encountered, one of the blades fell off the 2nd time it touched soil, only 1 of the 3 rivets had been fitted, I was told I could wait for another to come into stock and drive over an hour round trip but I had a hole open in a roadway so had to weld it so I could complete the job, this meant my warranty was invalid, I was offered £2.60 back as the tool station solution to the problem. I’ll never buy from tool station again and never buy another hawksmoor product! Avoid

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy tool deceiving on sight The handles are offset which for protection of knuckles is great. It does feel a bit flimsy but so far on the wet ground it's kept me going. I can't fault it. Weight wise it'd easy to carry. Grip wise sits well in gloves even when wet

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Sturdy invaluable tool Surdy, reasonably light tool (due to fibreglass poles with wood core). Invaluable digging deep holes for concrete posts

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Surprisingly good. Wasn't expecting this to be a great product, but it turned out it does its job really well. Dug 9 holes and all were perfectly sized and the process was very easy. When I picked it up I Initially thought the handles were bent but once I used it became apparent that they are this way so knuckles aren't smashed together and I can happily report no knuckles were hurt in its use! Sure, it's built to a price, if it was used professionally it could possibly fail in what they might consider a short time, but for a DIY person, absolutely fine.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great, just don't expect miracles. Like with most tools you need to appreciate their limitations. These are well made, strong and quite heavy (so you get a good workout). If you are not careful it's easy to catch your knuckles against each other - you suddenly learn. Just note, these work best in damp, clumpy or sticky soil and especially clay. If you have very soft granular soil it just drops out and digging in the 40 deg heat dried soil is almost impossible. if the soil is dry keep wetting it with water. Once you start to dig a cylindrical hole, just keep filling it with water to make your life easy. Just watch your knuckles. With these you can easily dig 60 cm deep perfectly shaped holes (with my water technique - which also helps when using postcrete).
