Fire Blankets

Fire blankets are a quick and effective solution for putting out small fires before they spread and become far more serious. Using a fire blanket to cover and smother the fire will starve it of oxygen and prevent it from getting out of hand.

At Toolstation, our fire blanket range is suitable for use at home or at work. You can choose from soft or hard cases and install them for instant access in any area where a fire is likely to break out – all it takes is a quick pull of a Velcro strap to release the fireproof blanket.

Fire Blanket Use

Fire blankets are often used for small kitchen fires, and they’re particularly useful for Class F fires involving cooking oils or greases. One of the most common types of cooking fire is a chip pan fire – using a fire blanket is the recommended way to deal with this, because it smothers the flames and deprives them of oxygen.

If you’re installing a fire blanket for kitchen use, make sure it’s fitted near to the potential fire hazard but not too close – you’ll need to be able to access it safely, if a fire does break out.

It’s also important to remember the size of the kitchen fire blanket you’re using. A standard 1m x 1m fire blanket may be fine for a small chip pan or baking tray, but larger sizes will be needed for commercial kitchens.
