Rustins Anti Corrosion Metal Primer Red 1L is rated 2.5 out of 5 by 35.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great primer Bought this originally as a temporary protection for an old car I was restoring to cover bare panels until could spray car paint. Yes it is VERY thick but once thinned with the correct thinners (I wish people would read the data sheet) it sprayed beautifully and left a really good finish, so good that I am getting another tin to do the whole underside and floor inside and just put top coats over it when ready. Very pleased with it

Rated 1 out of 5 by from More porridge than primer Should have read the reviews first as this product proved impossible to apply, as other purchasers have warned. Prolonged stirring was a waste of time as the the primer remained in a non-liquid state and then clung to the brush like sticky clay. I have no idea why the manufacturer would even market this when it is so clearly not fit for purpose. The solution was to throw the can away -- the only benefit being to learn from the experience (and remember to read the reviews before buying).

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Try it for yourself I’m sure you’ll be disappointe On removing the lid I attempted to stir this paint it’s thicker than black treacle, I continued stirring for at least five minutes to no avail, I tried applying this with a roller no chance So then I tried applying it with a paintbrush again same result no chance, in my opinion this needs to be thinned down

Rated 1 out of 5 by from useless paint Very user unfriendly paint. spreading properties are very poor and wetting properties are also very poor, and to make it worse special thinners are required which toolstation do not make clear at all when purchasing . A truly horrible paint and not at all recomended.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not recomended Not recomended for large projects eg painting steel beams,. This paint is the thickest paint that i have ever worked with and requires thinning before it can be used

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Like Tar Bought to paint an RSJ Its a nice sunny day so should have been a simple job Firstly, this is a very thin gauge steel tin which I though was strange. But hey what do I care if it makes the product cheaper to purchase. Importantly this is THICK like bitumen. It is a real pain to paint. Luckily I had some thinners and was able to salvage the job without much drama, but it is just too think to be sold as paint. Like all the others on here - I should have read the reviews.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Rubbish you will pull your hair out This stuff is absolute rubbish. I wish like others have said I had read the reviews! This is so thick and to the point out of the tin is useless for brush or roller application it tore my foam roller into bits as it sticks too much and it just will not go on with a brush. Even using proper thinners it will go on then but leaves ridiculous runs as it needs to be over thinned to get it to brush, it will not join into the other paint and flow with it which you have applied as the thinners on that evaporates super fast so the new loaded brush just sticks back into it. Really don't buy it it will make a pigs ear of your work, I'm going to have to sand mine again to flatten this off and get something much better. Some 15 year old Dulux metal primer worked great but I ran out and had to use this paste as it can't be classed as paint, the 15 year old Dulux was great stuff

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Primer! This is an excellent primer. Great product, great value for money. It is very thick and at first I struggled with it but once I found the right thinner it has definitely been a quality primer and I would definitely recommend it. (Just a personal note, and only mentioned because I didn't find any recommendations anywhere on what to use or not use as a thinner of this primer..... do not try thinning the primer with any white spirits type product! After a couple of trials I found nail polish remover worked a treat!)
