Landscaping is a growing industry in the UK. Employing around 66,000 people and worth £4.5bn to the economy, it’s a trade which is growing at about 2.8% each year, according to market research company IBISWorld. This provides great opportunities for landscapers to build successful businesses with domestic clients or providing outsourced services to the corporate market.
At Toolstation, we stock a wide range of professional products for all trades and Landscaping is no exception. “Landscapers are part of our target market, just as much as builders, plumbers and electricians,” explains Landscaping Buyer, Matt Kent. “Especially in the domestic sector, landscapers do a wide range of work. They could be gardening one day and building a fence or laying cement for a patio the next. They will need screws and fixings, cement, paint, outdoor buildings and fencing – categories where Toolstation has a lot to offer at highly competitive prices.”
Extended product range
Our landscaping category has recently been reviewed and we now provide more specialist products. We have added the ‘Al-Ko’ range of ride-on, tractor mowers and robotic mowers, and these are all designed for professional landscapers. Al-Ko’s dealer network means that the machinery we stock can be serviced easily and locally.
Einhell is a popular brand for landscaping and garden power. Although landscapers may know this as a mass market brand, the top-of-range products are more than capable of meeting their needs. The 53cm 173 CC petrol lawn mower, for example, is a popular choice among professionals.
We also stock the more established DeWalt cordless range, some with Flexvolt technology, giving the user mains power performance in a cordless machine. Cordless is a huge consideration when buying power tools; landscaping customers have told us that when they are competing for large contracts, tools that take carbon footprint and noise reduction into consideration help give them an advantage against their competitors. The majority of our landscape power range is backed up with a service guarantee. If something goes wrong, we can send it back to the manufacturer for the fault to be identified and the product fixed.
It’s not all about power, however. Within our hand tool range we have introduced a range of competitively priced insulated (VDE) shovels by Bulldog – these are suitable for commercial landscapers who may be working near railway lines or near cables. Bulldog as a brand is also well known in the industry; we currently stock a wide range of Bulldog landscaping hand tools.
Similarly, landscapers may be interested to know that Toolstation supplies compactors and mini dumper trucks which are sized to fit through garden gates. Should they be constructing decking or a patio, they will find builder’s exterior metalwork and landscaping cubes readily available from us too.
“New products are being added all the time,” says Matt Kent. “Recently we introduced soil sifters, for example. For anyone working in the landscaping industry, it’s worth keeping an eye on the extended range of equipment in our Landscaping category.”
