Rated 5 out of 5 by from Made the job so much easier! I bough this to help us fix up a bedroom into a nursery and this tool was great! Made the job so much easier and the dust extraction fitting was really effective at keeping the mess to a minimum

Rated 2 out of 5 by from It works, with flaws This machine is the 'pull' type, that is you need to pull it towards you, not push it away. I think some of the reviewers may not have known this. Dust will be phenomenal without dust extraction. I connected it to a cheap workshop vacuum and it was remarkable how little dust escaped. There are a few flaws. Mine had a malformed bolt which was sticking out the side, the head is a tamper-proof torx. Due to the plague, I was unable to return the item, but luckily I had a tap & die set, so was able to cut the threads to seat it properly. There is no easy way to cut a straight line. The vacuum attachment blocks any vision of following a line marked on the wall & there is no index mark on the tool anyway. I measured the distance from the edge of the blade to the edge of the soleplate, did the math & screwed a baton to the wall, to use as a straight edge to follow. However, this pesky torx bolt mentioned earlier, still sticks out proud of the sole plate and fouls the baton. The depth of cut can be adjusted & they helpfully give depth markings on the side of the machine. However, there is no index mark to align it with, thus making them pointless. So it is a case of trial & error, using a ruler to measure how far the blades descend below the soleplate. There is no blade guard, like a circular saw and the blade does not retract like a plunge saw, there is also no instant brake, so take care! goggles, gloves & safety footwear are a must. Changing cutting width is a pain. Bolts have to be undone on the side of the machine, to allow the side guard to move out of the way, however it cannot be removed completely and is always winging about, getting in the way. With all spacers fitted, a channel for 20mm conduit can be cut. 25mm conduit will just fit, but you may need to widen the area around connectors. For wider slots, yo will need to make more than one chase down the wall. For a cheap wall chaser, it works ok. My solution to cutting a straight line was to remove the torx head bolt & screw a baton to the wall to follow. I have made a jig, to make the tool easier to use, it is a baton, which is affixed to the wall to give a straight edge to follow & two spacer pieces. The spacers are used to easily and quickly set the baton in position. The first spacer has a pin, which locates in the hole that is drilled for use with the backbox sinker tool, which is right in the middle of the backbox. The length of the spacer is such that when touching the baton. will set the chase to be in line with the outlet hole in the top of the back box. Similarly the second space is positioned on the centreline of the chase near the ceiling and spaces the baton so it is vertical. Difficult to describe, but hope it makes sense. For occasional use, or a one off project, this tool is fine, but for everyday jobbing, a professional tool will make a much quicker & easier working life.
