Rated 5 out of 5 by from Replacement unit works well This is the second replacement unit for our bathroom shower lights. Both original units failed after around 10 years. First replacement about 1 year ago so looking good for now.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Dimmable Electronic Transformer 35-105W/VA I've used quite a few of these and found a degree of failures compared to other manufactures. Having said that, Toolstation have replaced them without problem when I've brought them back. The tranny seems to work as advertised but the connections are at both ends which limits its installation. Power in one end, dual power output the other.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nothing Dim About These! Not a transformer in the traditional sense but a reliable switch-mode power supply (made by Aurora, I believe) for extra-low voltage (ELV) incandescent lighting. Have used many of these over the years and have always found them to be reliable! Easy to wire, requiring only a 2-core flex for the mains supply, owing to the Class II design and with multiple secondaries for the ELV lamps. Ideally, each lamp should have the same type and length of conductor if a balance of light output is to be achieved. Minimum conductor cross-section for a 50W lamp is 0.75mm, however transformer secondary terminals will perhaps accept up to 1.5mm. A point worth mentioning in my view is that although the output such 'transformers' is usually described as 'short-circuit proof', if non-operation of the lighting is due to a shorted lamp, then the offending lamp should be replaced without delay and not simply left in this condition. Similarly, but for a different reason, as these devices have a minimum load requirement, replacement of failed lamps should again be expedited if the failure takes the remaining load under the minimum VA value. In multiple lamp arrays, I try to load the chosen transformer to around 85-90% of its maximum capacity. Whether it's as a result of this practice or for some other reason, but I have not had any transformer failures for as long as I can remember! Despite advances in LED technology, particularly improvements in the range of colour temperatures available and ease of dimming, ELV incandescent lamps still have a place in the hearts of many people. They may cost more to run than the LED equivalent and have a shorter predicted mean-time-before-failure (MTBF) figure, but somehow feel more 'friendly'! In my opinion, these Dais units represent good value-for-money!
