Electric showers are an efficient and cost-effective choice for any bathroom. Particularly useful for homes without a gas boiler, all you need is a mains cold water connection and a power supply for an electric shower unit – and you’ll find the very best range at Toolstation.

We know how important it is to have the very best electric shower fitted. It freshens you up first thing for a busy day ahead, and helps you relax at the end of it – that’s why we only stock the trade’s most trusted brands like Triton, Mira and Aqualisa.

In homes with no gas, an electric shower connects to the cold water supply and only heats water as it passes through the unit. As well as providing instant hot water on demand, it also means you’ll only heat the water you use – no energy is wasted.

Equally, homes with gas central heating can get just as much benefit from an electric shower installation. Due to its standalone setup, performance won’t be affected by other water usage around the home – there will be no sudden drop in shower temperature if someone turns the kitchen tap on!

Electric Shower FAQs

What is the most powerful electric shower?

10.8kW electric showers are among the most powerful you can buy. These units can provide higher temperatures and greater water flow, but will often require a minimum water pressure of at least 1.0 to 1.5 bar. Other powerful options include a 10.5kW electric shower.

Do electric showers heat water?

Yes – but only the water that comes through the electric shower unit. It’s connected to your cold water mains, so you’ll only heat the water needed for the shower.

Are electric showers expensive to run?

An electric shower will use power as well as water, so regular usage will increase your electricity bills. By how much? That depends on how powerful the shower unit is – for example, an 8kW shower will run more economically than a 10.8kW alternative.

How long does an electric shower last?

Electric showers will generally last up to 4-5 years, but many will continue to perform well beyond that with the right care and maintenance. High usage and poor water quality are common causes of shower faults before then. Most electric showers come with two-year manufacturer warranties.

Are electric showers safe?

Yes – but only if they’re fitted correctly by a fully qualified professional. The installation of an electric shower must be carried out to a strict set of regulations and guidelines, so it’s not a job for a DIY enthusiast.
