The straight part of the unit fastens to the stave of the ladder and then it has a bend up to the wheels. Once in place as you pull on the ladder to climb onto it, because the ladder and hook, up to the wheels, is one solid piece the ladder has a pulling point above the apex of the roof ie at the wheels. The result is that the ladder slides down the roof, only 10 or 15 cms, but the hook then has to slide up the opposite ridge by the same amount. The next issue for me was that it slid up and hooked under the ridge tile. As I was trying to get on the ladder you could see the mortar of the ridge tile cracking which meant it was lifting the ridge tile!
I searched for the cheapest price as I would only need it occasionally but as it was Youngman / Werner cheap wouldn't mean poor quality.
If it has any bearing the box was very dusty so had been on the shelf a long time and I cant find it on the Werner site. Their current similar product is of a different design without the flawed bend. I think this product is unsafe and should be withdrawn and maybe this is why Werner / Youngman have changed their design.

Secure support for working on roof
Having drilled 2 holes in each side of the ladder and fixing the hooks in I was very pleased with the security of the ladder

standard equipment that did the job
bought this roof hook to install a tv ariel, unfortunatly the black plastic spacers broke when they were tighten so would advise to be careful with them.
i got the job done so it worked.
